Types of Courses • Level 2 courses are all at the “GCSE” standard. • This term covers new courses such as BTEC and National which are considered to be Vocational courses. • There are some Level 1 courses which are delivered through our Alternative Curriculum where appropriate
Progress Checks • We send home our progress checks information so you can compare progress against targets. • This will happen four times a year; • Third week in November, • Second week in January, • Second week in March. • Second week in June.
Targets • Where do they come from? • Based on KS2 SATs results • FFT (Fischer Family Trust) • How do we use them? • Minimum target grade • Can aspire to higher
Coursework • Many subjects are still familiarising themselves with new GCSE courses this year. • Most GCSE subjects no longer do “traditional” coursework. • Most do controlled tasks, done under supervision. Strict guidelines on what can be done
Coursework • BTEC and Nationals provide courses which are 100% coursework • Need to be organised, stick to deadlines and not let work build up • Develop a portfolio of work • Learn the content then apply it to a task • This then fits into criteria – see next slide
Exams • Most GCSE courses have an examined component. • Many students will take public exams during January and June of Year 10; • English, Science, Geography, History, Business Studies. • English and Maths offer early entry to all students to give them “more than one chance” at passing. • No Y10 exam week
At Parent’s Evening June 14th 2012 How is my child being assessed? What are the deadlines for coursework and can it be done at home? How will they be approaching the coursework task and what is it? What revision guides and support are available?
