CPS Student DemographicsFY2008-09 • African-American: 46.2% • Latino: 41.2% • White: 8.9% • Asian/Pacific Islander: 3.5% • Multi-Racial: 2.9% • Native American: 0.2% • 84.3% from low-income families • 13.3% are limited-English-proficient • 68% of elementary students meet/exceed state reading standards (2009) • 31% high school students meet/exceed in reading (2008)
Snapshot of CPS Librarian Workforce • Approximately 550 teacher-staffed libraries and 500 teacher librarians • Approximately 100 HS and 400 K-8 librarians • 20 have achieved National Board Certification in Library Media • All HS librarians have masters in library science • However, almost half of elementary librarians are certified teachers without library certification or endorsement
