The Big Weekend (May 18-20) SMG Convocation Friday, May 18 11:45 am check-in and line-up in North Shell (Feld Skating Entrance, Agganis Way) 12:30 2:30 pm SMG Convocation (Agganis Arena) 2:30-3:30 pm SMG Reception (Lower Courts, FitRec) All-University Commencement Sunday, May 20 12:15 pm Arrive at Harry Agganis Way 1:00 3:00 pm All University Ceremony (Nickerson Field)

    4. For the All-University Ceremony Sunday, May 20, 1 pm Nickerson Field (rain or shine bring an umbrella and/or sunscreen) Arrive at Harry Agganis Way no later than 12:15 pm Look for the SMG signs Follow the SMG Marshals Seating is not alpha order, so you can sit with your friends

    6. Life In the North Shell Friday, May 18 - be there at 11:45 am!!! Enter the Arenas North Shell at the Feld Skating Entrance on Harry Agganis Way SMG Staff Marshals will check you in and give you your Blue Card (more on these in a minute) and your cords (if applicable), and will line you up in looooooong lines Late arrivers will need to proceed at the end of the line and out of alpha order (blah, unhappy guests!!!!!) Restrooms are nearby

    8. The BLUE Card Youll receive your Blue Card when you check in KEEP THIS CARD & DONT MESS IT UP! Show your card to Norm Blanchard before walking onto the stage Then give your card to Professor Dixon Dean Procopio will read your name (and keep your card) Please go directly to Dean Freeman to shake hands and receive your diploma folder

    9. Cords The following students will wear cords at the ceremony LOCK (white) Honors Program (gold) Beta Gamma Sigma (royal blue) These cords will be handed out prior to the ceremony at the check in tables (free!) Other cords (Deans Hosts, Delta Sig)

    10. Latin Honors Latin Honors are listed in the Redbook and will be announced after your name as you walk across the stage The Redbook will include honors as of January 2012 Summa Cum Laude 3.77 - 4.00 Magna Cum Laude 3.57 - 3.76 Cum Laude 3.36 - 3.56

Cap & Gown You must wear a BU issued cap & gown Purchase from Barnes & Noble at BU for $78 colleges.herffjones.com/college/bu/ Dress appropriately for the occasion, but suits are not necessary.however, you must wear clothing ROTC students are welcome to wear dress uniforms instead of cap and gown. If for religious reasons you prefer to wear alternative headwear, you may do so in lieu of your cap.

After the Convocation You and your guests are invited to the FitRec for a reception (usually 2:30-3:30 pm) You will receive your diploma folder on stage, but May grads pick up actual diplomas at the back left corner of the lower courts Or you can pick it up at the UPO on Saturday, May 19 from 9-noon, or until June 15th After June 18th, you will have to go to the Diploma Office (881 Comm. Ave., 2nd floor)

    17. Decorations You are allowed to decorate your cap Items such as champagne, balloons, beach balls, or any other such paraphernalia will not be allowed at either ceremony security will be checking

What to Tell Your Guests Tickets are NOT required for either ceremony have as many guests as youd like Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis on both days Tell them to enter Agganis Arena on Friday via the front entrance (starting at 11:30 am) and Nickerson Field on Sunday via Harry Agganis Way (gates open at noon) If you or a guest needs any kind of special access to either ceremony, go to www.bu.edu/commencement/2012/disability.shtml to fill out an accommodations request form (and let Erik know ASAP if its you) Parking is available (and free) in the Agganis Arena garage and other lots throughout campus. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of the MBTA and the free shuttle running up and down Comm. Ave.

What to Tell Your Guests II During the SMG Convocation we ask that everyone remain seated while each student is recognized We ask that if you or your guests take photos during the ceremony, please do so from your seats After the SMG Convocation, all are invited to a reception at the FitRec TELL YOUR GUESTS YOULL MEET THEM AT THE RECEPTION (youll be tunneling it)

    23. About Class Gift SMGs ranking and reputation is directly affected by Senior Class giving SMG has historically been significantly below the level of giving of our competitors We won the BU competition, but havent topped last years SMG participation rate (reached over 60%) 23

    24. Why Give? Our goal for this year is simple- PARTICIPATION! Even $1 helps! Tiers for giving: $20.12 Get the above listed benefits & Honor a Mentor (Professor, Staff, etc.) $100 Get all of the above benefits as well as an exclusive invite to a Class Gift reception at President Browns House (You can also pledge $20.12/year for the next 5 years) You can give directly to SMG You can also give to other offices at BU (CSC, Athletics, etc.) and still count as an SMG donor! 24

    25. Alumni Class Gift Challenge David Luski, an SMG 80 Alum has pledged up to $20,000 if we can reach our goal of 90% of all seniors donating. He will donate $2,500 for every 10% we get to donate! We need your help to raise participation as high as possible! 25

    30. A Few Last Helpful Hints Please dont bring personal belongings (e.g. coats and purses) to the line-up area, as there are no facilities to secure them. Hang up your cap and gown the night before. Ironing with low heat can also help.
