Coaching Courses • Reminder that GSSA requires all of our coaches to be certified through the state in order to coach. • You have 6 months after becoming a coach or moving to the next age group to obtain the correct license. • If you were a coach last Spring you must go to a state course in order to coach this season. • F - U8 and U10 coaches; REC E – U12, U14, & U16 coaches; D - Advanced license for all ages • You can find an updated list of all the state courses by going to the state website at www.gasoccer.org • Roswell is hosting a Rec E course on Saturday August 16th at East Roswell park from 9am-6pm. Please register for this class ASAP.
Practice Schedules • Practices start the week of Monday August 18th. • Everyone who turned in a practice preference form is being scheduled practice days and times. We will get out the schedules this week to everyone. • If you did not turn in a request please come see us after the meeting so we can get you on the schedule. • U-08 and U-10 coaches are scheduled one practice a week and U12 –U16 teams are scheduled two each week. • Coaches can call us and schedule an extra practice on a week by week basis in any open spaces we might have available.
League Rules • Please stay out of the goal areas during your practices. Please be mindful of the field conditions and try to stay on the side of the fields in order to save the wear and tear on the heavy traffic areas. • If you move the goals at Waller Lower or Woodstock please remember to move the sand bags that go with them. It is very important to keep the goals anchored for safety reasons. • Please do not allow your players to hang on the goals or nets during games or practices. For safety reasons and to keep them maintained they need to be treated with care. • Please do not move the goals at East Roswell or Waller Upper as they are supposed to stay in place.
Uniforms • Each team will have a home and a visitor jersey, one pair of shorts, and two pairs of socks. • The home jersey will be royal with white trim and the visitor jersey will be white with royal trim. • Please be aware of the schedules and tell your teams to wear the correct jerseys. I would suggest every player bring both jerseys to every game. • Unfortunately we have to order uniforms before we know who is going to register for the programs so sizes are not always exact. Please try to let your parents know this. If you have a uniform that is too small then we can get a bigger one, if one is too big then it might be harder to replace.
Rules Specifically for U-8 • We will be playing 4v4 with no goalies. • A 5-yard arc will be around the goal. Players will be allowed to move into & through the zone but will not be allowed to stand in the arc. Please do not place a player at the top of the arc at any time on offense or defense. • There will be a line drawn across the field cutting each half in half. All defensive players must stay in front of this line while the ball is in the other half of the field. This allows all of the players to remain in the flow of the game without being held back in front of the goal. • The quarter lines are also there as a guide for goal kicks. The defensive team must have all their players behind the line when a goal kick is taken to allow for the offensive team to get the ball out of their goal area. Once the ball is kicked they can then run onto the ball and play as normal.
Rules Specifically for U-8 • We will be having free subs as well as calling 10 minute quarters, remember that each child must play ½ of every game. • You can only sub on your own throw ins, any goal kicks, kick offs, and injuries. • Free subs will not be used as a time out. You may call players on and off the field but may not use the time to instruct them on the field. You will have a short (1 to 2 minute) break at the quarter to instruct the children as well as a half time. • No scores or standings will be kept at U8 and all players will receive an award at the end of the season. • There will not be offside calls at U-8 and there is no slide tackling allowed.
Rules Specifically for U-10 • We will be playing 30 minute halves at 6v6 with a goalie and each player must play in ½ of each game. • There will be no slide tackling at U-10. The penalty will be an indirect kick from where the infraction occurred. • There will be no offside at U10. Restricting movement in any way at this age deters the players from spreading out. • Please do not abuse this rule and place players in an offside position. If you notice any of your players are standing by the opposing goal waiting for the ball please encourage them to get back into the game and into an onside position. We will be asking the referees to do the same.
Rules Specifically for U-10 • There will be free subs at U10. You may sub on your own throw ins, any goal kicks, kick offs, and injuries. • Goalie Rule: The goalie must play as much time on the field as in the goal. If he/she plays the entire 1st half in goal, he/she must play the entire 2nd half on the field. Remember that if a child plays the entire game this may cause another player to lose playing time. • We will not have standings at U10 and every player will receive an award.
Special Notes for U12 & Older Teams • All U12 age groups are going to play 8v8 including a goalie and every player must play in ½ of each game. • The small sided games enable the players to get more touches on the ball and hopefully improve their ball skills and have more fun in games. • The U14 & older age groups will play 11v11. • The U12 - U19 teams are going to be scheduled with other clubs in the area We will try our best to limit the travel time of these teams to the surrounding clubs. • Player passes are only going to be mandatory this season for recreational players who are schedule with the GYSA system. This should only affect the U19 team.
Tournaments • We will not be holding an end of the season tournament for the U8 age groups. • We will have a tournament at the end of the season for the U10 age groups with awards given to the champions and second place teams of the tournament. This may either be in a round robin format or a single elimination format. • For the U12 age groups, we will look into holding a tournament with some of the other teams you will play against this season. We will not be able to hold end of the season tournaments for the U14-U19 teams. • Having good sportsmanship should always be a priority in the recreational leagues. Please be aware of your sportsmanship throughout the season as the refs will be making notes on the score cards for us.
Player Clinics • We will be offering free clinics to the recreational players this season on Thursday nights at Waller Lower from 6:30-7:30pm. • The clinics will focus on skill development, such as passing, shooting, and individual ball skills. • Please encourage your players to participate in these free clinics. They will be very beneficial to the players. • We ask that you not send your entire team to these clinics as they are not staffed to handle full teams. Please send a few players each week out of those who are interested in receiving extra training.
Junior Academy • This extra program is offered to U8 and U10 players who are interested in enhancing their skills and learning more about the game. • It is designed to be a stepping stone for recreational players into the Academy program and to introduce them to a development and training program. • Scott McDonald is the program director and will be running each session along with other Santos trainers. • The fee is $75 per season which includes 8 sessions and a t-shirt. We are offering two sessions, Monday 4:30-5:30 at Woodstock and Thursdays 5:30-6:30 at Waller Lower. • The sessions will start August 25th and will run for 8 weeks through October 13th. • Registration is going on now and is due to our office by August 18th. Please help us promote this program to your players who may be interested.
Additional Information Referees • Occasionally games have referees that do not show. If this is the case please try to find a parent or assistant coach who can fill in until the referee gets there. We have staff members at all the fields so please try to let them know so they can notify the correct person. The most important thing is to let the kids play the game and have fun. • We are in need of referees so if you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a referee please let us know. Weather Hotline • The weather hotline number is 770-641-3836. We update the line around 3pm on days the weather is questionable. Please make sure your parents are aware of this number. Email List • We will be requesting a team email list from every coach. This will help us get information out to our participants.
Calling Post • Calling Post is a system that allows you to contact your team with one message versus calling 15 different people to repeat the same message. • You will need to go to www.callingpost.org to set up your account. • You will be prompted through a set of instructions to set up a new account. Your access code will be your home telephone number. • There is a small fee for using this system but it is well worth the time saved. • If you used this system last season, all you need to do is change your members names and numbers.
Roswell Soccer Club • Please visit our website at www.roswellsoccerclub.com. It is updated on a regular basis and you can find all the information for the season on this site. Please help us direct your parents to the site as it might save you some phone calls and emails too. • The RSC is currently completing a deal with Soccer in the Streets, the USSF, and the Atlanta Silverbacks to construct a mini pitch made of synthetic turf at Waller Park. We are excited about the opportunities this will bring to the community. • We are always in need of more volunteers for the Roswell Soccer Club and are looking for ideas and ways for us to make the program better for our participants. Please let us know if you or anyone else might be interested in joining our board.
