Progress but much more to do • Much has been achieved in pursuit of the NSDS target • New “satellite” programmes build on and intensify these efforts: • International Household Survey Network • Accelerated Data Programme • But much remains to be done, including national and international investment in implementing NSDSs
1. NSDS • 10 regional workshops (including Costa Rica) • Peer reviews • Integration of statistical development into PRSP through GDDS • Production of several new NSDS methodology papers and NSDS Sample Paper • Production of a Comprehensive Worldwide Report on NSDS Progress • Roll out of NSDS Essentials check list
1.(cont) –Task teams • Costing and funding – developing a database of country volumes of costs for statistical activities • Training – guide to developing a human resource development strategy and training needs assessment • Rural and agricultural statistics – finalising advocacy video; integrating agricultural statistics into NSDS • Intersect – draft proposal for guide to integrating sectoral statistics into NSDS • Knowledge for statistical development – new task team proposed
2. Advocacy • Action plan – further work to • Identify audiences and develop messages • Preparation of new advocacy materials e.g.: • Making Statistics Count • Country advocacy guide and tool kit • Working with PARIS21 partners to deliver advocacy • Consortium meeting – late 2007/2008
3. Partnership – Light reporting mechanism • Complete companion document • Verify results in selected countries. In Niger pilot: • Financial support 5 times amount reported in LRM • Key source of information – staff of national statistical system • Important exercise for decentralized partners (EU, UN agencies) • Clarify differences between CRS and LRM for selected partners • Review LRM content • Organise Forum of key donors • Discuss SCB issues & donor collaboration at CCSA • Launch LRM in another region • Design/monitor web-based database
4. Satellite Programmes • PARIS21 Secretariat hosts three satellite programmes: • International Household Survey Network (IHSN) • Accelerated Data Programme (ADP) • Metagora • In support of MAPS: • IHSN: brings survey producers, sponsors and users together to improve access to and use of survey data • ADP: pilot programme intended to assist up to twelve countries to undertake urgent improvements in key development indicators, including the MDGs, between now and 2010.
ADP: Piloting an integrated approach • Activities: • Inventory and dissemination of existing data • Analysis of existing data • Assess past and on-going survey program; review and improve survey methods • Design and implement improved medium-term survey program (within NSDS)
5. Management • “Light” evaluation • Secretariat to develop proposed work programme for the future of the Partnership • UNSC participation
