What is the New York State Smokers’ Quitline? The New York State Smokers’ Quitline is a free and confidential program that provides evidence-based stop smoking services to New York State residents who want to stop smoking or using other forms of tobacco.

Quitline Overview In operation since 2000 Based at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, located in Buffalo Serviced more than 300,000 calls Hours of Operation: Live Counselor Support Monday – Friday 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday – Sunday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Taped Message Library: 24 hours/7days Tip of the Day: 24 hours/7days
Caller Options When callers call the Quitline they have the following five options: 1) Speak with a Quitline Specialist 2) Leave contact information for a call back 3) Leave mailing information to have stop smoking literature mailed 4) Listen to taped message library: currently eight available 5) Listen to the “Tip Of The Day”
Quitline Services for Smokers and Other Tobacco Users • Telephone counseling in English or Spanish • Starter kit of Nicotine Replacement Therapy for eligible smokers • One scheduled callback to smokers who get a free starter kit of NRT
Quitline Services for Smokers and Other Tobacco Users • Up to four scheduled telephone counseling calls for eligible Medicaid, Family Health Plus and uninsured smokers • Up to a six-week supply of NRT for eligible Medicaid, Family Health Plus and uninsured smokers • Fax-to-Quit Provider Referral Program
Quitline Services for Smokers and Other Tobacco Users • Referrals to local stop smoking programs • Referrals and information for NYS Health Plans’ cessation services for members • Clearinghouse for materials and information in English and Spanish • Web-based services(www.nysmokefree.com)
Telephone Service • Trained Quitline Specialists provide counseling and information to smokers and former smokers in English and Spanish (other languages available) • Quitline Specialists will call back all clients receiving NRT from the Quitline to assess NRT utilization and further help clients with quit smoking plan • Quitline Specialists use a specially designed electronic call record interview for each type of call • Callers can call as many times as needed
Fax-to-Quit Provider Referral Program • Easy fax referral program for providers to refer tobacco using patients • Referral form is faxed to Quitline • Quitline Specialist calls patient and provides stop smoking intervention • Feedback form is faxed back to provider office
Quitline Materials • Material Order form available on Quitline Website www.nysmokefree.com • Materials can be ordered by calling the Quitline directly • Material quantity limits are listed on the form • Bulk orders provided based on availability
