Avoiding Injury Most accidents occur as a result of carelessness. When working in the shop, it is important you pay attention to your work to avoid injury.
Shop Safety Rules • Wear safety glasses; it is a state law • Wear protective clothing • Keep the laboratory clean • Avoid horseplay at all times • Do not throw objects • Store tools properly • Do not use tools without permission • Use the correct tools for the job • Report broken tools to the instructor
Shop Safety Rules • Pay attention to your work at all times • Leave guards and shields in place • Grip tools firmly • Keep cutting tools sharp • Keep tools clean • Cut away from the body
Group Activity Criteria • In your groups, choose two of the shop safety rules that we discussed today. You can find them on your handout. Take tenminutes and make up a skit that shows either a good or bad example of BOTH of these rules. Your group will be given no more thantwo minutes to present in front of the class. I will time your presentation.
Reflections • Write down one thing about shop safety that you are still unsure about. You are not allowed to write that you understand everything. • Write down one thing you learned from today’s lesson. • Turn in your answers as you are leaving.
