  1. Grade 10 Physics Welcome 10Sc1! G9/10 science course – Your 6th Trimester What is physics (again)? Your friend asks you what physics is about – write down 3 things you tell him/her.

  2. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction • What is physics? • Study of the natural world around us • From the very small sub-atomic particlesto the • very large stars, galaxies, universe. • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0fKBhvDjuy0

  3. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction To study of the natural world around us we look at: • Motion (G10) speed, acceleration, forces, orbits • Heat (G9) temperature, heat capacity, transfer, insulation • Waves (G10) wave behaviour in light, sound, water • Electricity (G9) charges, currents, voltage, power • Atomic/Nuclear (IB) fission, fusion, power, bombs • Astrophysics (IB) stars, universe, cosmos. (Is there anything missing above?) To study this you need certain scientific skills:

  4. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction • Science Skills: List six science skills you use to study any science.

  5. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction • Science Skills: • Observing the world around you • Designing and completing investigations • Experimenting safely • Recording & processing data • Drawing conclusions • Evaluating your investigations • Solving problems • Being aware of science in the world around you.

  6. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction

  7. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction • Assessment • Lab designs & reports (B, D, E, F) • One World Essay/Presentation (A, B) • Topic Test (C) • Grade 10 Exam (w/c 20th May 2013) • – covers all G9/10 topics • - (in Bio and Chem too) (C)

  8. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction • Grade 10 Science Exam (May 2013) • For MYP, will contribute to C grade • % grades will help DP subject choices • Paper 1 – multiple choice • Paper 2 – written questions • Both papers in 3 parts, Bio, Chem, Phy

  9. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction Motion Topic Overview: Topic Question: How Can we make the roads safer? • How Fast is ‘fast’? (speed, velocity, acceleration) • How can we track motion? • What causes motion? (Newtons Laws)

  10. Grade 10 Welcome & Introduction So, work hard, study, enquire, contribute!
