  2. A gift must be accepted for what it is. If you have to pay for a gift, or if you have to do something to deserve or earn it, then it’s really not a gift, is it? A gift can only be received or refused. In light of what we know to be true about a gift, reflect for a moment on the absolute wonder of the gospel message. In Jesus Christ, God offers sinners – which every single one of us are – the gift of forgiveness and eternal life! We don’t deserve this gift. We can’t work for it as though it were something God owes us. And we certainly can’t pay any amount of our blood and treasure for it; this gift can only be received or refused. To attempt to pay for it would be an insult to the Giver. Salvation is God’s offer of a gift to you and me – sinners one and all. However, the gift comes to us at the costly expense of God’s One and Only Son. A gift freely offered? Yes. A gift cheaply purchased? NO WAY! This Bible study focuses on a beloved passage of Scripture. It reports a conversation Jesus had with a man named Nicodemus about being “born again,” and it features the verse often called “the gospel in a nutshell.”

  3. Key doctrine:The new birth is a work of god’s grace whereby believers become new creatures in christjesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the holy spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the lord jesuschrist. Focal Passages: Being Saved John 3:1-16 Being Condemned John 3:17-21 Being of Service John 3:22-26
