About Manga • Manga is the word for Japanese comic, but it can also be seen as an • artistic form of storytelling. • Manga is extremely popular in Japan and becoming increasingly so • in the West. • Educators in both Japan and the UK use Manga in the Language Arts • classroom to amplify instruction. • Manga can combine complex themes with modern forms to make stories • seem more modern.

Obstacles in the Current Language Arts Classroom • Students may not understand the language of Classic Literature. • Students may feel that Classic Literature is not relative to today. • Students may become bored and uninterested with older texts. • Teachers may spend excessive time explaining various elements of the • literature.
