  2. The Profession Map • The Profession Map is at the heart of the CIPD vision. • It sets out the CIPD’s professional standards. • Internally, our qualifications and professional membership entry criteria are based on the map. • A wide range of organisations and HR & L&D professionals are now using the CIPD and the Profession Map.

  3. Why refresh? • A key feature of the map is that it is ‘current’ and ‘live’. • A refresh ensures that the content reflects and drives the latest thinking and latest practice & policy for organisations and HR professionals.

  4. CIPD Profession Map • With the refresh we: • Stayed true to the original concept and meaning and much of the content • Used workshop feedback to make changes to the language and to clarify and or alter the descriptor and refine some of the statements

  5. CIPD Profession Map refresh • Name changed to CIPD Profession Map and reduced use of the term HR • This is to ensure that is it immediately resonates with specialist in areas such as L&D or Reward • Tidied up and edited clusters • For clarity • Removed cluster headings from knowledge areas • For clarity • simplified and de-duplicated wherever possible

  6. CIPD Profession Map refresh • Added more statements and sections on diversity in each professional area. • Research showed it need to be clearer • Moved project management to the Core (ISS) and removed from other professional areas. • To avoid repetition between core and specialist areas. • Removed references to team management etc, especially at band one and two, where possible • Not necessarily relevant at band one or two.

CIPD Profession Map refresh • No more blanks or N/A, statements • Standardised grammar and language across the Map*, including removal of etc and e.g • *example replaced the use of the word staff with employees. • Ensure Language is relevant to those working in SME’s. • Also created a guide for SME’s
