Letter “Y” Parade- saying and listening to the sound the letter “Y” makes, while enjoying music and having a parade *Making cookies- counting with one to one correspondence Upcoming events: Jan. 17th – Martin Luther King , Jr. Day- No school Feb 25th and March 18th - preschool screenings at Tozer all day. If you know of a child that will be preschool age for the 2011-2012 school year and would like to have them screened for possible consideration for preschool or have any developmental concerns please contact Liz Gullette at 686-8012. Conferences: Feb 8th – 17th. Please be watching for a letter to come home about signing up for a time soon. Report cards will be sent home on Feb 15th. Letter “Y” week- your child may bring in one item that they can carry that begins with the letter “Y” on Thursday for our letter of the week parade. *Cookie cutter paint prints- eye hand coordination *Make pretend texture cookies- cutting, painting and counting *Making gingerbread necklaces- stringing beads – good fine motor skills *Playdough with Cookie cutters- eye hand coordination and strengthen hands. Adam, Dominic, Johnathan and Kali work together whild building. Molleigh concentrates while drawing a picture at the writing center. Books / Themes Social / Emotional Communication Cookies The Gingerbread Man By: Catherine McCafferty Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar By: Bonnie Lass and philemon Sturges When the Door Bell Rang: Pat Hutchins The Yak who yelled Yuck By: Carol Pugliano-Martin *make a gingerbread man cake together- taking turns, sharing and working as a group *Take turns playing the game- who stole your cookie- say each child’s name when trying to guess who it is. *Working together to figure out simple math problems to see if they will have enough cookies for everyone. *Rhyming sounds game- preschoolers are given objects and they have to find the correct card by which ones rhyme. *Beginning to segment words and hear how many sounds are in each through file folder games *Retell the events in the stories read during circle time.
