Solider settlement scheme Soldier settlement is referred to as the occupation and settlement of land throughout parts of Australia by returning discharged soldiers under schemes that were administered by the state government after the world wars one and two. Crown land was set apart for the returning soldiers but for theses soldiers to get the land they had to remain on the land for 5 years. They created the solider settlement scheme because it guaranteed an increase on the population of settlers to Australia. Due to the selection of inexperienced settlers, lack of capital, the size of the blocks allocated and the prices received for agricultural products the solider settlement scheme started struggle. to struggle.

  3. Between 1918 and 1934 over 11,600 returned servicemen were allocated blocks of land under the soldier settlement. Most of these people we settled in the Mallee, south Gippsland, the western district and the irrigations areas.
