Clothing as Cultural History • In the 1920 the women who wore headbands were called Flappers, and they used to wear them to keep their hair out of their eyes while dancing. These headbands where usually decorated with embroidery, beads, or a feather.
Art: Gustav Klimt • Klimt’s Frieze was my inspiration especially The Three Gorgons • I used the Golden Snakes on their heads, It is an element that reminds me of Klimt’s Frieze
Design: Art Nouveau - Mucha • I chose Art Nouveau but Mucha’s Dance was the one who inspired me mostly • From his design I found a small detail that I used for my Headpiece
Film: The Great Gatsby • The Great Gatsby has a nice variety of female clothing in it, and for me the headbands they wear in the film are very beautiful • I wanted to use the material and style from this particular headpiece and recreate a design from it
Adding it up • Through sketching | started developing my ideas • I started with a mash-up of all the three elements that I liked from the research • Then I came out with a design for my Crown Headpiece
My Design for Today’s Fashion Looking up the latest trends I have found that crowns are being used by Dolce and Gabbana for this years hair fashion, so my crown can be actually in style with this years fashion trends, and could be worn as a piece of jewellery in a catwalk.
