Raising Participation Age Current Year 11 students must continue in Education or training requiring for two further years This could mean: • full-time study in a school, college or with a training provider • full-time work or volunteering combined with part-time education or training (280 hours) • an apprenticeship
Apprenticeships Earn while you learn • at least minimum wage A real job • at least 30 hours a week, • Over 150,000 employers are offering Apprenticeships in more than 200,000 locations A real qualification • All Apprenticeships must be at least 12 months long and lead to a national qualification that is respected by employers around the world. http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/
Support and Guidance:PSHE lessons Mrs Lawrance and staff from Colleges have visited all students in PSHE lessons to: • Provide information on range of options • Explain application processes • Identify those needing further support

Support and Guidance:Individual Interviews • About half have had interviews with an independent careers advisor (by request). • All students have additional interviews with Sixth Form staff to target further support • Help is also available from:https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk.
Support and Guidance:Individual Interviews All students have interviews with Mrs Lawrance and the Sixth Form team: Week Beginning 13th January to: • Identify those needing further careers guidance • Identify those needing support with internal and external applications • Distribute Newent Sixth Form Prospectuses
Support and Guidance:Year 11 Parents Evening • A chance to talk to subject teachers about: • Nature and Content of Courses • Course suitability • Try to target appointments to subjects of interest • Thursday 23rd January, 4.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
Support and Guidance:Careers Fair • Representatives of: • School departments • Post 16 colleges • Universities • Employers • Thursday 13th February – 6.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m.
Newent Sixth Form – OFSTEDs View “Results for A-level examinations show that students continue to achieve well in the sixth form. Many students were successful at gaining a place to study at their first choiceuniversity, including some to Oxbridge and other highly prestigious universities. Other students were successful at gaining apprenticeships.” (OFTSED Inspection report: September 2013)
