Where We Are To Date • Strong Key Messages: • SSC can work on improving procurement processes in order to promote innovation • SSC can adopt a culture of innovation, accept risk, and be willing to learn from failures • SSC can engage with industry on its future needs without being prescriptive • SSC can leverage associations and innovation hubs to establish relationships

Key Recommendations to ITIR • SSC to engage in a broad-based outreach program on forward-looking needs • Streamline and improve SSC and ICT sector engagement in the CICP program • Streamline SSC’s internal procurement processes to promote innovation • Leverage innovation hubs and VC to identify potential innovations – don’t go it alone Innovation Outreach Innovation Engagement A critical success element for SSC’s Innovation Agenda is to ensure Canadian ICT community has clear view of the SSC Problem Space – in essence ensure the market sees the “Unmet Demand” it’s not currently meeting • Leverage CICP • -Establish an SSC-ICT stream • -Participate in bid evaluation • -Provide lab environment for testing and feedback • -Ensure continuity with enterprise procurement • Leverage Innovation Hubs • -establish communication rhythm on potential innovations • Leverage SSC’s Procurement Authority • Foster a culture of innovation within SSC • Identify and resolve any barriers in the procurement processes • specific recommendation to follow Build a system that brings these elements together: Unmet Demand ICT Innovation Funding • Provide a forum for outreach that ties back to funding • The market will organize itself to meet the demand

Proposed Outreach Engagement Assess Performance Innovation Outreach Dedicated sessions with SSC leadership and leading innovators within the Canadian ICT community Onboard Innovation Proposal • Open discussion of SSC forward-looking need and where no market solution is yet evident • Product innovators, thought leaders, Canadian incubators and VC community • Not about today’s products: • not procurement, not sales • Formal discussion of approach with ICEAC • Presentation to ITIR • CICP • SSC procurement • Assess relevant innovations • Perpetuate SSC’s engagement • Synthesis of results • Feedback September/October Timeframe End-User Devices Cloud Computing Converged Communications Security Setup Ongoing 10 | 17 Fall Late summer Winter/Spring June 4
