Parting Tips Focus on a good fit versus a “good” college. Expect your student to do his best while remembering they are different from their friends and siblings. Anxiety is contagious. Stay calm and resist lecturing. Ask your child what her plan is for studying, writing essays, and completing applications. Visit college campuses. Visits are critical in the decision-making process. Talk about finances early and truthfully. Contact the college admissions and financial aid offices for answers to questions. Colleges communicate with students via e-mail. As soon as your student decides which college he or she will attend, have them set that e-mail account up in their phone. They should check that account often. Colleges will rescind offers of admission. Enjoy this time with your student. Time flies in senior year, and before you know it, you will find yourself mailing graduation invitations.
