Making High School Count • Performance in middle school is an indicator of success in high school. • 9thgrade is a "make it or break it" year. • More students fail 9th grade than any other grade in high school. • A large number of students who are held back in 9th grade subsequently drop out. • The most powerful indicators of whether a student will complete high school include course performance and attendance during the first year of high school.

Honors course work will be different.
