CONCLUSIONS OF THE EVALUATIONS • The Ministry of agriculture and rural developmentiscurrentlyfacingseveralchallenges and the new ministerislauchning an ambitious program aimingatimprovingfoodsecurity and making agriculture become a more significantactor in the national economy, • In thiscontext, heisadopting a new results-based management approch but stronglybelievesthatthis program cannotsucceedunlessthat the departementisequipedwithsound information system thatwould help him and his staff efficently manage it. Main objectives of the developmentof the statistical master plan NB: The statistical master plan incuding the design of an information technology system for the agricultural statistics and the capacity building of the implementation of his plan. Main objectives: • Facilitate the processus of developing a National Strategy for the development of Agricultural Statistics(SDSA en french), (World Bank), • Support capacity building at direction of Agricultural statistics and informations system, (World Bank). • Implementation of databases on the size(format) of country stat (FAO). • Action plan of capacity building with INS and CNS 5 African Commission on Agricultural Statistics, 21 th Session, Accra, Ghana, 28- 31/10/2009
National Strategy for the development of Agricultural Statistics(SDSA en french) • Summary description of activities of SDSA: • Preparation of road map and submitit to the management of Ministry and the National Office of statistics(ONS), • Review of priordiagnosis of the system. The synthesis évaluation document willbediscussedduringavalidationwoorkshop to wichdonors and keystakeholderwillbeinvited, • Elaboration of the strategy for the development of the agricultural statistics. A validation workshop with the ONS, hhe National Concil of statistics(CNS en french), and with the participation of all the stakeholder, • Elaboration of the Action and financing plans. COUNTRY STAT ALGERIA • To harmonize internally the different data streams they have and facilitate analysis and reporting, • To harmonize with other national agencies • To harmonize internationally, • Move progressively from a purely agricultural approach to a rural development/poverty approach, • To get all data into relational databases, • Increased use of metadata and standards.
