  2. Introduction • Born: James K. Polk was born on November 2, 1795 in North Carolina. • Died: James K. Polk died on June 15, 1849 in Nashville Tennessee. • Elected: James K. Polk was elected March 4, 1845 at the age of 49 • Political Party: Democrat • Interesting Fact: When he was running for president he was not well known. Somebody running against said “Who’s James K. Polk”.

  3. Early Life • His parents were farmers and he was the oldest of ten. • His parents names were Samuel and Jane Polk. • James K. Polk was home schooled and could not help on the farm. • A doctor gave him a operation when he was 16.

  4. Early life • He went to North Carolina for his college education. • At North Carolina he was one of the best students on campus. • He graduated at the top of his class.

  5. Family Life • James K. Polk was married. • His wife’s name was Sara Childress. • They had no children or pets.
