Time Resolved PIV system • A global imaging system that has the ability to capture image fields (velocity fields) at orders of magnitude faster than standard PIV systems • A PIV system that makes flow measurements with very high update rates • Can provide information about • Flow dynamics, flow transport • Motion of structures in the flow • An integrated system with high frame rate camera and high speed pulse laser
Time Resolved PIV system • Provides instantaneous flow fields - Spatial and temporal nature of the flow field • Special algorithms form TSI (e.g., Hart Correlation) • to increase spatial resolution (more flow details, structures in the flow) • Interest in knowing evolution of the flow • Need to make velocity measurements with high update rate, typically in KHz or higher • Time Series Analysis package • Provides Time history, time series plots, statistics and spectrum analysis
System Components • High Repetition rate Laser • Model YLF-HS dual laser • Model YAG-HA single laser • Laser light sheet optics • High Speed camera system • Photron SA3 Series Cameras • Model 610035 LaserPulse Synchronizer • Stereoscopic assembly • Insight 3G image capture and analysis package
Example High Speed Camera System • High Frame rate camera with integrated sensor protective mask and F-mount lens mount. The camera system included the Nikon 28 mm lens and all interface cables. • Pixel resolution 1024 by 1024 pixels • Sensor type CMOS • Dynamic range 12-bit • Frame rate per second 2000 (1024 x 1024 pixels) • 4000 (1024 x 512 pixels) • 6000 (512 x 512 pixels) • 8000 (1024 x 256 pixels) • 20000 (256 x 256 pixels) • Memory Up to 8GB • Communication Gigabit Ethernet
INSIGHT 3G software • Configure for single and stereo arrangement of PIV systems • Image capture and analysis • Incorporated with Matlab for Time Series analysis to provide time history, time series, statistics and spectrum analysis • Direct link to TecPlot for vector fields presentation
