Program Description Project FAIR( Families Achieving Independence through Recovery) is a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Substance Abuse, Prevention, Treatment & Recovery and the Wayne County Department of Human Services. The program offers substance abuse treatment screenings and referrals to parents or guardians that have child protective service involvement due to substance abuse. Clients are directed for services by the child protective service worker or foster care worker. Participants must meet eligibility requirements. Participants must be city of Detroit Residents with Medicaid insurance, non insured or underinsured. Substance abuse screenings are offered by telephone or walk in services. Treatment services are offered the same day. This program greatly assists individuals with maintaining their family unit and/or family reunification.

  10. FAN: Working Towards Community Wellness Collaborative initiative between the Department of Human Service, Detroit Public Schools, and Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion Bureau of Substance Abuse, Prevention, Treatment and Recovery

How the System Works • FAN uses the Student Assistance Program (SAP), endorsed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMSHA), to identify youth who are at highest risk of academic failure, drop out and drug use. • Youth and families are identified by the FRC coordinator, parents, teachers, or self referral. • A core team within each school reviews referrals on a case by case basis • Appropriate resources, referrals, and assistance are provided to youth and family

  12. Services Provided to Youth and Families • Individual counseling and group therapy sessions provided by licensed clinicians • Curriculum guided family sessions using Strengthening Families and Children of Addicted Parents • Resource referrals for additional services.
