Introducing the Draft Mental Wellbeing Strategy for Sheffield Authors: Mary Tidyman, Mental Health Promotion Consultant, with:- Gary McCulloch Paul Redgrave Janet Southworth
Our intention is that the draft strategy • Takes a universal and society wide approach • Joins up and makes connections with and across other strategies • Proposes innovative ways of working • Adds value to what is working or known to work well • Provides an outcomes framework
Mental well-being can positively affect almost every area of a person’s life -education, employment, family and relationships. It can help people achieve their potential, realise their ambitions, cope with adversity, work productively and contribute to their community and society.
Social & environmental influences Social capital Inequalities Loneliness Debt Natural environment Housing Transport Sports/arts/leisure Physical/mental health Obesity Substance misuse Crime Childhood Education and work Later life Discrimination
Develop an action plan to:- • 1. Promote a transformation of understanding towards mental wellbeing. • 2. Measure mental wellbeing and attitude change. • 3. Develop “best buys” – interventions where there is the largest return on investment and best evidence. • 4. Provide a compendium of evidence that supports various programmes of work across the City to make a greater contribution to mental wellbeing.
