Boy Scouts of America. Troop 482. Cub Scouting is the first step on the Scouting trail. Being a Cub Scout is lots of fun. As Tigers, Bobcats, Wolves, Bears and Webelos you learn new things and new skills that you will use to meet challenges as you get older.

Cub Scouting is the first step on the Scouting trail. Being a Cub Scout is lots of fun. As Tigers, Bobcats, Wolves, Bears and Webelos you learn new things and new skills that you will use to meet challenges as you get older. For you boys who are Webelos, the next step is to cross over the bridge to Boys Scouts
Being a Boy Scout is not that different from being a Cub Scout. In Cub Scouts you work with your Den Leaders who helped you with your advancements, projects and Activity Pins. In Boy Scouts you will also work on advancements and Merit Badges. The big difference is you will be part of a team of boys working together.
Just like the Cub Scouts there are different ranks. 1st Class Scout Star Tenderfoot 2nd Class Life Scout And of course…
What will I do when I become a Boy Scout? In Troop 482, we have many different activities. Our troop meets each week where we work on all different types of skills for camping, physical fitness, knot tying and First Aid, just to mention a few. We also go camping every month. Each year there is a ski trip or white water rafting trip. We participate in community events such as parades and perform community service for our town. But most of all, we have fun!
What equipment will I need to go camping? The Boy Scout motto is “Be Prepared”. Here are some of the basic items you will need for a camping trip. Matches, Compass and Flashlight. Mess Kit, Utensils and Insulated Cup Ground Pad and Sleeping Bag
Merit Badges In Cub Scouts you earned Activity Pins. In Boy scouts you will earn Merit Badges. Earning these badges will help you experience and learn new things. They will also help you to advance in rank. Here are just a few that you can earn: Physical Fitness Leather Works First Aid Camping Fishing Space Exploration Small Boat Sailing Swimming Canoeing Photography
TOTIN’ and FIREM’N Chit One of the first skills you will learn is how to safely use a knife, ax and saw for cutting firewood. You will then learn about fire safety, how to use a camp stove and build a fire properly, even with out matches! When you have completed these skills you will have earned your TOTIN’ and FIREM’N chit patches.
Summer Camp At the end of each Scouting year, our troop takes a week long trip to Camp Yawgoog, in Rhode Island. Scout troops from all over the New York and New England area come for a week of fun and friendship. At camp we keep busy working on merit badges, sports, water activities, camp shows and a whole lot more. Your first time there, you will earn your Swimming, Leather Works and Fishing merit badges! Scouting is a lot of fun, but there is so much more to it. It about friendship, team work, leadership, Scouting principles and taking charge of your life.
