Federal Financial Aid • Funded in part by the Walmart Brighter Futures Project www.seattlecolleges.edu/wrp
What is Financial Aid? Federal Financial Aid is assistance that helps qualified individuals and families pursue education beyond high school. • Pell Grant—foreligiblestudents without a degree; always available • State Need Grant— for eligible students without a degree; must apply early • Work Study—for eligible students with or without a degree; allowsstudents to earn wages while working on campus; must apply early * Tuition Waiver, North Seattle Grant, and other funding may be available. * No loans are available through the Seattle Community College district • Funded in part by the Walmart Brighter Futures Project www.seattlecolleges.edu/wrp
Why Apply for Financial Aid? • You can receive more funding. Federal Financial Aid often provides more than Workforce Education funding. • Funding is more stable. You will be granted an award for the entire year rather than only a quarterly basis. • You can pursue a transfer degree. Transfer degrees are not allowed through Workforce Education. • Research suggests that you are more likely to succeed. An internal study found that students on federal financial aid were 2.5 times more likely to complete their program. • Funded in part by the Walmart Brighter Futures Project www.seattlecolleges.edu/wrp
Important Points • You might be eligible for more than one funding program. • Financial Aid (FAFSA) awards are applied prior to Workforce Education funds. • Workforce Education awards should be applied on the Wednesday before the start of the quarter. Please check that your award has been applied. • Funded in part by the Walmart Brighter Futures Project www.seattlecolleges.edu/wrp
