  2. Looking at Effective Teachers • What can we learn from others? • Think about the best teacher you know • What makes that person different?

  3. It’s People Not Programs • What does this mean? (Shoulder Partner) • Research supports (Student Background vs. Teacher Quality) • Student does poorly on an assignment (Reaction of the best vs. the worst)

  4. The Power of Expectations • High Expectations For Students • High Expectations For Themselves (Teachers, Athletes, Actors, etc.) • High Expectations For Everyone Else (Ineffective People)

  5. Prevention vs. Revenge • List strategies that you can use when a student misbehaves (Activity) • Which ones will you choose? • Earning Student’s Respect • The teacher is the variable (Can you predict who will write the most referrals?)

  6. The Teacher Is The Filter • Perceptions can become reality • “These are the worst students I’ve ever had!” • Ineffectiveness of Blanket Statements

  7. Ability to Ignore • Student acting out of the ordinary • Struggling student showing improvement • High achievers who make a mistake • If positive equity is built, parents will forgive our small mistakes • Building parental relationships

  8. Base Decisions On The Best • What will the best students think • Try new things based on the best students • NO GANG ZONE NO BULLY ZONE • Someone in authority treating you or someone else disrespectfully (All students are affected)

  9. Make It Cool To Care • “If we create an environment where each person does what is best for the students and for the school, we will seldom make a wrong decision.”
