Conduct a survey to determine the most popular pets in the class, record their favorite foods, and create graphs to show the results. Optional activity includes transferring the data to pie charts.

Most Popular Pets • Survey children in class. • Count up how many have each type of pet. • Record the totals on a table. • Use graph on next slide to show results. • You can come out of the slideshow by pressing ‘Escape’. • You may have to change some of the labels. • Double clicking the mouse on the graph accesses the data sheet. • Simply replace our data with your own. • Save to drive ‘c’, then restart the slideshow.

  4. Save The Data • Don’t forget ! • Save the programme to drive ‘c’ • This saves the class data for later use

  5. What Do The Most Popular Pets Eat ? • Pupils suggest which two pets shall be investigated. • This is usually the two which were most numerous in the last survey. • However the ones they ‘like the best’ can be chosen.

  6. Most Popular Pet 1 • Ask all the owners of this pet what their pet’s favourite food is. • None owners can describe what their friend’s Grandparent’s, or Uncle’s pet eats so not to be left out. • Total up answers in a table and then add the results to the graph on the next slide. • You may have to change the labels again.

Popular Pet 2 • Now ask all the owners of the second most popular pet what their pet’s favourite food is. • None owners can describe what their friend’s Grandparent’s, or Uncle’s pet eats so not to be left out. • Total up answers in a table and then add the results to the graph on the next slide. • You may have to change the labels again.

  12. Optional Activity • Ask the class to transfer the data to pie charts. • Draw these by hand using compass and pencil. • The school may already have available a suitable programme to draw the results of the survey.
