Part 1: Priority projects • 1. Translation of the SOF reports 1997 – 2006 (selected chapters) • 2. Marshall Plan for Haiti – updated and abridged version of the study is ready; translation into French in August (Pierre Armand) • 3. Implementation of projects at local level – Baie de Henne, Haiti • 4. Cooperation with the Global Marshall Plan Initiative (www.globalmarshallplan.org)
Haiti: security in Port au Prince still limited (kidnapings)
Environment is degraded due to overpopulation, deforestation,…
Health care in rural areas is almost non-existent (mother with child suffering children´s polio)
Adoption at Distance (Children´s Sponsorship) – 200 children already adopted in Baie de Henne region
Health Care Centre in Mole St. Nicolas (2 doctors from Slovakia, 1 nurse from Olomouc)
Here, in Mole St. Nicolas Columbus perhaps landed first time in America
and 32 solar panels (20 new) for community well (safe drinking water)
School for 250 children almost finished and operating (January 2007)
School canteen still not finished (beneficiary „Concert for Haiti“ organised by Caritas in August 07 should help to raise money)
New project – „Sport for Development“ and out of school activities (swimming etc.)
Better institutional background for CE Node Since September 1st 2007: new „Department of Development Studies“ established at Palacky University (Faculty of Science) where CE Node will be based. Study programme „International Development Studies“ (first of this kind in Central/Eastern Europe) accredited and opened (bachelor´s programme since 2003, master´s programme since 2005, now altogether 150 students; 30 in each year)
Mission of the International Development Studies The aim of IDS is to prepare experts for future operation within the developing Czech programme of development cooperation. The graduates will be educated above all in science (geography and regional studies focusing on the developing regions, environment) but also in selected subjects of humanities (development economics, project cycle management etc). Priorities in research area: environment/development issues, sustainable development, future-oriented studies, global issues
