Status of 6GHz in Europe • SE45 • 2019-05-31 - ECC Report 302 approved for publication by WGSE • SE45 kept open until FM57 work is complete • FM57 • 2019-06-06 – WGFM #94 endorsed Draft CEPT Report A • Provided to ECC for Public Consultation • Complementary Studies per Task 2 of EC Mandate (LS to WGSE) • VLP outdoor impact on FS short term interference • CEPT Report B – Timeline July 2020 • WGFM#94 • 2019-06-05 - New WI (FM57_04) adopted to develop ECC Decision on 6GHz RLAN

Brief History of Adaptivity (Channel Access) • Nov 2011: v1.6.1 “Adaptivity” requirements first introduced replacing the “Medium Access Protocol” requirement • Jan 2015: V1.8.1 Options A and B, plus IEEE Option with test • BRAN#81 – Agreement to replace A/B options with a single option in next RED version v2.1.1. Technology specific reference should not go in the next version. • Work item REN/BRAN-0060015 scope ………... (4) To improve Adaptivity for Load Based Equipment by replacing the current 2 alternative options with a single solution that provides equal (spectrum) access to different technologies. • June 2016: BRAN#88 Coexistence sessions complete in draft v0.0.9 and future input moved to drafting sessions. • Temporary declaration option included for some load based adaptivitytests • March 2017: BRAN#92 Final draft v2.0.11 approved by TC BRAN. Published as RED Version v2.1.1 May 2017 • Next version to consider: • Single ED threshold limit, general review of adaptivity • Guidance of the European Commission to disallow manufacturer declarations to achieve compliance • Latest draft: • Removal of exception to declare compliance instead of testing. • More generic text for ED to allow option conditioned on use of PD, as well as an option for ED only, for all technologies • IEEE 802.11 preamble detection test must be included if using PD
Lessons learned • Agreement is possible even with contentious issues • Meeting schedules often made LS communication inefficient
Status of 5GHz (EN 301 893 v2.2.1) • Outstanding issues for adaptivity as of close of BRAN#102 • Paused COT (Re: NR-U) • No LBT/Short LBT usage • Delayed ACKs and Broadcast Transmissions • Defining Test for IEEE preamble • Expected Final draft approval: BRAN#104 • What can we do better for 6GHz?
Next related BRAN meetings • Relative EDT Levels GoTo Meeting • 1st August 2019, 15:00-18:00 CET • Preamble Detect testing investigation • Hosted by Rohde&Schwarz(Munich): 20th August 2019 • BRAN#103 • 7-10 October 2019 • BRAN#104 • 2-5 December 2019 • Participation / Proposals / Contributions welcome!!
