Simple Sentences • Simple = Independent Clause = Subject + Verb • Ex. Billy chased the weasel.
Compound Sentences IC + IC • 1) Comma + FANBOYS (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) • Billy chased the weasel, but the weasel eluded him. *Also, notice the use of the pronoun for sentence variety • 2) SEMI-COLON • Billy chased the weasel; the weasel got away.
Complex Sentences: IC + DC • 1) IC DC. • Billy went to the store because he needed milk. • 2) DC, IC. • Because he needed milk, Billy went to the store. • 3) I, DC, C. • Billy, because he needed milk, went to the store.
