Reasons to Include Music • Mental capacity and intellect- connection between music and mathematical thinking. • Mastery of the physical self- aids in coordination. • Development of the affective aspect- helps to convey different moods to express feelings and emotions. • Development of creativity- can create an imaginary world that stimulates a child’s creativity.
Musical Intelligence • Ability to perceive, produce and appreciate pitch and rhythm. • Appreciation of the forms of musical expressiveness. • Individuals with Musical Intelligence: Leonard Bernstein, Ray Charles, Emmylou Harris, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Joan Baez, Nora Jones, James Taylor and Eric Clapton.
Logical-Mathematical Intelligence • Ability to discern logical and numerical patterns including rhythm, meter, time, signature, and note value,, and the ability to handle long chains of reasoning. • Capacity to explore patterns, categories, and relationships can be heard in four-part harmony and counterpoint music from the Baroque Era. An example would be Bach.
