Background: • Watch a video about different types of sharks. (from 28’50” to 31’20”)
About the types of sharks, three shark attacks, some advice to reduce the chance of being attacked by sharks. • Questions: • 1. What’s the passage mainly about? • 2. Which senses do sharks use while attacking people? • 3. Can you swim in the ocean with a fresh wound? • 4. Why can’t we wear bright clothing or jewellery while swimming? • 5. Do hitting the shark on the nose or sticking your finger in the shark’s eyes work while shark attacks you? Why or why not? They use the sense of smell, taste, touch, sight. No, you can’t. Sharks can smell the blood. Sharks are attracted to colours and shiny objects. To hurt shark’s senses
project • Questions: • 1. Do you know how to produce a TV show? • 2. What do you think are important factors?
Procedures • 1. Decide the type of show. • 2. The content of the show. • 3. Collect information. • 4. Prepare equipments/ tools. • 5. Assignment (different roles, eg: a narrator 旁白,a shark…) • 6. Time limit(8-10 minutes)
Students act out how sharks use • their senses to hunt food or live.
Comments • 1. Get students to make comments on their shows. • 2. Make comments on students’ shows, give them more advice.
Producing a TV show • 1. Read the material about dogs. • 2. Enjoy a TV show about our dear friend—dog’s senses.
Step 8: A PPT about shark’s senses • Conclusion: • As we all know, sharks use their senses to hunt food, sometimes even people. But if they have the choice, they don’t feed on human beings. • So they are not so scary .
