IEC TC100 AGS Report on IEC SMB SG1 Energy Efficiency and Renewables 18 October 2009 Jean.baronas@am.sony.com (with some information about SMB SG3) Document: 100_EEAGH (09) 005
Discussion Topics • Newest Recommendations: IEC SMB/SG1 21- 26 • Joint ISO/ TMB SAG-E and IEC SMB/SG1 recommendations 1-5 • IEC SMB/SG3 Smart Grid Note: SMG/SG1 recommendations 1-20 were reported in the May 2009 meeting of the IEC TC 100 AGS
Newest Recommendations • IEC SMB/SG1 recommendations 21 - 26 • Joint ISO/TMB SAG-E and IEC SMB/SG1 recommendations 1 – 5
Recommendation 21 • 21. ISO/TC184 and IEC/TC65 (in combination with further committees to be defined) should have a workshop to find out resources for energy efficiency combining the process itself with suitable IT tools. • Further (other) committees are to be defined.
Recommendation 22 • 22. Regarding efficiency in energy intensive industries, a workshop involving IEC/TC4, TC5 and TC65 should be arranged in order to develop a common understanding. • Please note: According to www.iec.ch IEC.CH, TC 184 is disbanded
Recommendation 23 • 23. IEC/TC111 in conjunction with ITU is requested to give the guidance on the methodology to measure carbon emissions.
Recommendation 24 • 24. The incorporation of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources require a smart power distribution grid. • IEC work on this subject should start immediately. • To be dealt with by the SMB/SG2 “Ultra High Voltage” and the SMB/SG3 “Smart Grid.”
Recommendation 25 • 25. There is a need for a Committee preparing standards for Concentrating Solar Power Plants (CSP). • SG1 recommends to establish a Project Committee on this subject. • Note: Cooperation with IEC-Ocean Energy Systems is recommended.
Recommendation 26 • 26. There is a need for a Committee preparing standards for Salient Gradient Power Plants. • SG1 recommends to establish a Project Committee on this subject. • Note: Cooperation with IEC-Ocean Energy Systems is recommended.
Joint ISO/TMB SAG-E and IEC SMB/SG1Recommendations • SAG E and EG1 thank the IEA, ISO and IEC Secretariats for organizing the excellent workshop held on the 16-17 March 09 (energy efficiency and international standards) and recommend that the forthcoming report highlight priorities that can be used in the strategic discussions of SAG E and SG 1. • - Priorities of the IEC should be highlighted to allow the standardization work of ISO and IEC to be closely mapped with policy makers needs.
Joint ISO/TMB SAG-E and IEC SMB/SG1Recommendations • SAG E and SG 1 note that the workshop served to reinforce the role of International Standards as tools for harmonizing measurement methods and calculations, providing best practice, disseminating technologies and enable functionality. • - SAG E and SG 1 once again recommend that standards should enable stakeholders such as policy makers to set energy efficiency levels. • .
Joint ISO/TMB SAG-E and IEC SMB/SG1 Recommendations 3. SAG E and SG 1 note that a systematic approach to energy efficiency in buildings and processes be taken into account during the technical work. - SG 1 will work with the various IEC committees to prepare a report on its work in this area. The leadership of the various committees are encouraged to make appropriate connections with each other and to consider holding a dedicated event on the subject.
Joint ISO/TMB SAG-E and IEC SMB/SG1 Recommendations 4. SAG E and SG 1 notes the numerous issues and initiatives to be discussed related to industrial energy efficiency and recommends that the ISO and IEC work on industrial automation also be taken into account in the future discussions. -Where ever possible, appropriate connections and joint initiatives should be made between the many countries involved.
Joint ISO/TMB SAG-E and IEC SMB/SG1 Recommendations 5. SAG E and IEC SG 1 recommend support for the AFNOR proposal for an ISO/IEC standard for terminology in energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. SAG E and SAG 1 recommends coordination (ISO and IEC) among committees that have already defined energy related terms.
