  1. CEA 3D Updateto IEC TC100 AGM Jon Fairhurst 19-May-2010

  2. CEA • A trade association for the Consumer Electronics Industry in the US • Responsible for CES Trade Show • Accredited by ANSI for developing US standards • 3D efforts in CEA • 3D Uncompressed Interface (R4.8 WG7) • 3D Glasses (R4 WG16) • 3D Promotion

  3. Uncompressed Interface 3D Project • Project allocated to R4.8 WG7 • 3D Task Force disbanded • New promotional group created • Task: to extend CEA-861 • CEA-861 currently used by HDMI • CEA-861 is not interface specific: may be used by other interfaces

  4. Uncompressed Interface 3D Project • Standard: “CEA-861.2, 3D Extensions” • CEA-861E includes EDID for negotiating media format from source to sync • CEA-861.2 • Adds 3D InfoFrame and EDID CEA 3D data block • Supports all 3D structures used in HDMI 1.4 • Liaison worked to add 3D structures to HDMI for completeness • Benefit to consumer: manual switching to match source and sync formats unnecessary

  5. 3D Glasses Standardization in CEA • R4 WG16 formed • Scope: IR-Synchronized Active Eyewear • Developing a full requirements list before specifying details • Solution • Standardize IR emitter-to-eyewear signaling • Address interference/susceptibility • Allow/Facilitate interoperability with legacy systems

  6. IR emitter-to-eyewear signaling to include • Wavelength • Carrier frequency • Burst patterns • Codes • Timing • Frequency range • Maximum distance requirement • LC shutter polarization • Power-down • Modes • Pairing automation
