  3. Vocabulary • Static Characters-character doesn't change. • Dynamic Characters-undergoes change • Protagonists-the leading character • Antagonists- opposes Protagonists

  4. Vocabulary from book • Stave- section of music, chapter • Humbug- an unhappy expression • Omnibus- volume containing several novels • Bedlam-Bethlem Royal Hospital

  5. Ebenezer Scrooge • Dynamic character • Protagonist • represents the Victorian rich • “If they would rather die, they had better do it and decrease the surplus population”

  6. Bob Cratchit  • Scrooge's overworked employee • Tiny Tim's Father • Static Character • A symbol for the Victorian poor

  7. Tiny Tim • Static character • Bob Cratchit's young son, crippled from birth • “God bless Us, Every One!”

  8. Jacob Marley • Static Character • He is a ghost • Scrooge’s old work partner • “BUSINESS? Mankind was my business! Their common welfare was my business! ”

  9. Ghost of Christmas Past • Antagonist • Takes Scrooge back to his past • His purpose is to show why Scrooge is the way he is

  10. Ghost of Christmas Present • Antagonist • Shows Scrooge how he is acting in the present • Purpose is to make Scrooge aware of his actions

  11. Ghost of Christmas Future • Antagonist • Takes Scrooge into the future to show him what will happen if he keeps acting this way.
