Spreading the Revolution • Commune favored radical change • Wanted to expand France • Peasants in western France did not accept the authority of the National Convention • Many rebellions occurred • Austria, Prussia, Spain, Portugal, Britain, and the Dutch Republic took up arms • National Convention gave powers to the Committee of Public Safety • Maximilien Robespierre
