NATIONAL COUNCIL OF BARBADIAN ASSOCIATIONS (UK) • Voluntary Association started in 1979, 13 years after Independence. • Started by groups of the North & Midlands as an Umbrella body for Barbadian Associations • Now known as NCBA(UK). • Today NCBA(UK) is divided into four UK Zones: • Zone 1 - North • Zone 2 - Midlands • Zone 3 - London Area • Zone 4 - South and West

NCBA (UK ) ACTIVITIES • Campaigns on behalf of the UK Barbadians and Returning Nationals. • Acknowledges role Barbadians played in UK after the II World War in: • National Health Service, Transport and various Industries. • With affiliated Associations supported and raised funds for worthy causes and projects in Barbados and UK: • Kidney Machine donated to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital • The Susan Barrow Appeal • Thelma Vaughn Memorial Home • The Challenor School for Mentally Handicapped • Donations for Books and materials for Combermere School • The Hosting of Students and visiting Teachers • Inviting University Students to Social Events and the homes of UK Bajans • Supporting sports in schools • Books for Schools • Black History Month events for Families • Annual Independence Anniversary Dinner and Dance • The Twinning of Reading and Speightstown

NCBA (UK ) ACTIVITIES Cont’d… • 40th Anniversary of Barbados Independence Thanksgiving Service at Coventry Cathedral. • Saw the largest gathering ever of Barbadians in the UK, over 1,200 fill every seat in the Cathedral. • Barbados Flag was flown out side Coventry City Council House for the week and can still be seen today. This in itself says something for the Barbadian Community in the UK. • In conclusion the aims and objectives of NBCA(UK) is to promote: • Social and Cultural Development of Barbadians in the UK. • offer support and to enlighten Barbadians and on issues concerning such matters as: • Health, Education, Immigration, Legal Advice and Social Services for all age groups. • To help to support Barbadians not only in the UK but in Barbados and in doing so provide a link for future generations
