UK NFS DPD - Didactic Program in Dietetics • Is an ACEND accredited dietetics program of academics in Food and Nutrition Systems Management. • Prepares the dietetic student to meet the foundation knowledge learning outcomes for dietitians in the clinical, community, and food systems management domains. • Upon successful completion of the DPD, students will be eligible to apply to a Dietetic Internship and or/graduate school.
NFS DPD Option A • The academic component of dietitian education is available to students who: • Declare Dietetics in the Department of NFS as their major • Attain a GPA of >2.4 on a 4.0 scale to progress into major coursework requirements in Junior Year/YR 3 of the DPD
NFS DPD Option A cont. • Outcomes for DPD Graduates • ACENDFoundation Knowledge Requirements met and Verification Statement earned • BS in Dietetics • Eligible to apply to a Supervised Practice Program (SPP) –Dietetic Internship (DI)
NFS DPD Curriculum • Two academic years - 4 semesters - basic pre-professional & UK CORE courses • Two years of intensive academic, professional, and experiential study • Didactic courseworkis 4 semesters: • Junior/Year 3 Fall and Spring • Senior/Year 4 Fall and Spring
STEPS to the SPP / DI The following steps are designed to assist you in obtaining a dietetic internship (DI) after completing the NFS DPD
STEP 1 Complete UK CORE and Pre-professional Requirements
STEP 2 Strive for a High GPA Dietetic Internships are competitive admission programs. Improve your chances by maintaining a good GPA. Candidates are not considered competitive unless they have at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 GPA scale.
STEP 3 Participate in Volunteer Activities in Dietetics As soon as possible, start gaining experience in dietetics. Experience may either be paid or volunteer. These experiences will benefit you when being evaluated for acceptance into a DI.

STEP 5 Participate in Extracurricular Activities It is important to have leadership experience to be successful in dietetics. Gain these experiences early in your college career.
STEP 6 Obtain an Application Packet http://www.eatright.org
STEP 7 Follow DI Application Guidelines Carefully When asking for recommendations: Submit a Resume and a Letter of Recommendation fact sheet to the person from whom you are requesting a reference.
STEP 8 Write a Strong Cover Letter for the Application Packet Go through the editing process again. Seek input from the UK Writing Center. Check with your advisor or mentor regarding the quality of your work.
