  3. What Is Pride? • “haughty, vainglory, high look…” • “puffed up, to inflate, blow up, blow out, to cause to swell up Figuratively, To make proud.” • Full of hot air – Proverbs 25:14 • Pride is an unrealistic view of ones abilities • Scriptures warn: Galatians 6:3; Romans 12:3

  4. Pride comes from Abundance, Achievements & Blessings • Watch for pride – 2 Corinthians 8:1,2 • Careful who you put into positions of responsibility – 1 Timothy 3:6 • Paul needed help to avoid pride – 2 Corinthians 12:7

  5. The Horrors of Pride • Pride is a sin • What does God think of pride? Proverbs 21:4; 6:16-19; 16:5; 8:13 • It is a sin that comes from an evil heart that defiles a man – Mark 7:21-23 • When God makes such statements about a sin we better flee from it!

Pride Causes Other Sins • 1 John 2:16,17 • Involved in the first sin – Genesis 3:5 • Pride made Satan, Satan – 1 Timothy 3:6 • Pride will prevent conversion – Matthew 18:1-4 • Pompous pride kept Felix from obeying the gospel – Acts 24:25 • Pride one of the sins characterize “perilous times” – 2 Timothy 3:1-5

Still Hope If One Repents • Pride causes blindness – Romans 1:20-22 • Man who is proud will be afraid to face self • Sometimes we use other words for pride, such as stubbornness. • Identifying Pride in our lives: • Pride is essentially competitive – 3John 9,10 • Pride looks down on others- Luke 18:9
