  6. Achieving Success Together Providers often support attorneys by contributing medical source statements to Social Security Administration appeals and housing condition cases. Law students, social work students and medical partners worked together to present policy proposals to the Chicago Board of Education and federal legislators. Providers and law students supported the National Center’s Health Impact Assessment of ComEd’sSmartGrid program. Providers and law students submitted editorial letters on several issues relevant to health, including food deserts, homelessness, and the effect of utility shut off. Attorneys, law students, public health experts and social workers collaborated with the New York Times to highlight an Erie Family Health Center patient in a series about homelessness, which resulted in permanent housing for the family. Attorneys and law students presented to medical residents and Grand Rounds on the topics of housing conditions, therapeutic diet allowance, rights of pregnant and parenting teens, medical legal partnerships, and “know your rights” for patients. Law students, social work students, and residents developed a policy strategy on behalf of the National Coalition for the Homeless.
