How The marriage Was Arranged • The father of the bride chose a husband for his daughter. • A roman girl was considered ready for marriage at the age of 12, but both the bride and groom usually were around 14 when they got married • When the father of the bride made his choice of a husband for his wife he considered the economical and political advantages instead of his daughters happiness.

  3. How They Dressed • The bride wore white. • She also had a flaming orange veil on, it was called a flammeum. • The most important part of her dress was a belt that was tied in a knot around her waist. • only her husband could untie her belt.

  5. The Ceremony • At the beginning of the wedding the brides mom would hold her and the husband would take her with a pretend act of force. • The bride would say the vows which made their marriage formal. Their vows were chants. • The chant in Latin was “Quandotu Gaius, ego Gaia”, but in english it says “Where and when you are Gaius, I then and there am Gaia” • They would sit on a bench in front of the alter together and give a sacrifice to Jupiter. • The sacrifice was normally cake then the bride and groom would eat the cake together and congratulations would be given by the few present witnesses. • The Ceremony was held at the brides house.

  7. After The Wedding • After the wedding The bride would be escorted to her new husbands house. • Before she entered the house she had to say the chant again and then enter. • Once she got inside she was givin a torch that she used to light the fire palce. • Then they had a dinner party

  8. This is a torch that the bride would use to light the fire place in her new husbands home after the ceremony.
