Kindergarten Readiness What can I do to help my child achieve success in kindergarten? • Show an interest in education • Set an appropriate bed time • Talk about stories • Limit television and computer games • Sing songs • Teach and practice manners • Have fun and explore the world around you • READ, READ, READ! *** Must be five years old by September 30, 2011 to attend kindergarten – no exceptions ***
Suggestions for School Readiness • Academic: Can recognize and write first and last name Can count to 20 or higher Knows the uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet Recognizes the sounds of the letters Recognizes numbers 1-10 Identifies basic shapes and colors
Suggestions for School Readiness • Social and Emotional Readiness: Physical health and nourishment Enthusiasm and curiosity Verbal communication of needs and wants Engaging in free play with other children Can follow directions and classroom rules, is not disruptive in class Sensitivity toward other’s feelings Ability to sit and pay attention Uses materials safely and appropriately Demonstrates self-control Can separate easily from caregiver

Important Dates • Kindergarten Registration – Begins Monday May 2nd • Kindergarten Screening Week – August 22nd-26th • First Day of School (for kindergarten) – Monday, August 29th
Kindergarten Supply List • Large backpack • Glue sticks (1 package) • Tissues (1 box) • Dry erase markers (1 package) • Hand sanitizer / Disinfecting Wipes • $25 donation • Classroom Snacks Other requests made as needed
