Reimbursement Requirements • One snack/child/day (school days) • Must contain an enrichment or educational component • Available to children after their school day has ended • Area-eligible free rate for 06-07 is $.65
Meal Pattern Requirements for the After School Snack Program • The snack shall contain at least two of the following four components: • minimum serving sizes indicated are for ages 6 - 18.
Milk • Serving size: l cup • Must be fluid milk
Meat/Meat Alternate Serving size: l ounce • Yogurt must be 4 oz or 1/2 cup volume • Lean meat, poultry, fish, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, yogurt (plain or sweetened and flavored)
Fruits or Vegetables Serving size: 3/4 cup • Vegetable(s) and/or fruit(s) or full-strength fruit or vegetable juice • Juice may not be served when milk is served as the only other component
Grains/Breads Serving size: l serving • All grain/bread items must be enriched or whole-grain flour, or if it is a cereal, the product must be whole grain, enriched or fortified.
NON-CREDITABLE ITEMS Ice Cream Non-fruited Jello Sunny Delight Potato Chips Pudding Lemonade Buddy Bars Popcorn Kool aid
After School Snack Pattern • Milk, fluid l cup • Meat or Meat Alternate l ounce • Juice or fruit or vegetable 3/4 cup • Bread and/or cereal 1 slice Enriched or whole grain bread or Cereal: Cold dry 3/4 cup Hot cooked 1/2 cup
Record Keeping… Must maintain: • Documentation of Eligibility • Meal Counts • Documentation of individual child’s attendance • Document of compliance with meal pattern requirement • Documentation of educational/enrichment component
REVIEW REQUIREMENTS School Food Authorities administering after school snacks must: “Review each after school care program two times a year; the first review shall be made during the first four weeks that the school snack program is in operation each school year…”
