Student Teaching Schedule Interim Week: October 26 – October 30, 2009 • Arrange to meet your 2nd placement Associate Teacher • Collect original evaluation forms and keep lesson observations and rubrics from your first placement • Schedule to meet with someone from the Office of Student Teaching/Certification, if needed • Attend optional seminars on resume writing and interviewing (http://www.medaille.edu/studentteaching) • Initiate an optional credential file by contacting the Career Planning and Placement Office at 1.800.292.1582, ext. 2211

Suggested Timetable for Student Teaching Experience – Week 1 • Observe teaching procedures • Become acquainted with curriculum scope of group & curriculum materials employed by associate teacher • Observe & become acquainted with classroom & school routines • Observe children in order to become aware of the children’s needs • Assume responsibility for limited teaching activities—teach a small group; read a story; take children to lunch; assist in arrival & dismissal of children
Suggested Timetable for Student Teaching Experience – Week 2 • Gain insights into the long-range plans for the year • Become acquainted with social personnel • Assume teaching responsibility for classroom activities, i.e. children in small groups • Discover scope & sequence of school curriculum • Investigate the resources of the school • Become an active participant in school activities • Assume greater responsibility for non-teaching activities • Plan & teach lessons with total group
Suggested Timetable for Student Teaching Experience – Week 3 • Continue observation & participate as previously stated • Assume complete responsibility for all non-teaching duties • Assume full responsibility for two full teaching periods • Gain insight into home background of children • Indicate ability to locate and handle school teaching aids • Assume select responsibility of possible co-curricular or extracurricular activities
Suggested Timetable for Student Teaching Experience – Week 4 • Continue previous activities • Assume responsibility for execution of the plans for more teaching responsibility • Assume complete responsibility for new learning area (unit teaching) • Indicate knowledge of available community resources & indicate ability to use these resources
Suggested Timetable for Student Teaching Experience – Week 5 • Continue with previous stated activities • Plan & execute program for up to one week now or by week six Suggested Timetable for Student Teaching Experience – Week 6-7 • Continue with responsibility from other weeks, or what associate teacher plans for student teacher • Visit other classrooms to observe different strategies techniques, etc.
