Welcome to ASDA’s Week 5 Meeting! ASDA’s Week 5 General Meeting!! Welcome!
Are you ready? Some dat questions of the day
DAT Question #1 [Gchem] An aqueous solution of which of the following salts will have a pH closest to 7? a) NaHCO3 b) Al(NO3)3 c) CaCl2 d) KClO2 Question taken from Chad's videos
Answer to Question #1 c) CaCl2 • Remember: • Group I and II metals –negligible in regards to acidity • The more positive the charge, the more acidic. • Strong acids has very weak conjugate bases (therefore negligible when dissolved)
*Remember strong acids chart! a) NaHCO3 (basic salt ) b) Al(NO3)3 (acidic) c) CaCl2 (neutral) d) KClO2 (basic)
DAT Question #2 [Ochem] What is the correct IUPAC name for the compound pictured above? Taken from Kaplan DAT test prep book
Answer to Question #2 • E) 5-ethyl-3-methyloctane • Remember: • Look for the longest carbon chain. • Label substituents on the lower-numbered carbon atom. • Alphabetize substituents as necessary.
Final DAT question of the day!! • Cardiac muscle: • Is innervated by the somatic motor nervous system • Is not striated • Is multi-nucleated • Has involuntary contraction • Does not require calcium ions Taken from Kaplan DAT test prep book
Answer to DAT Question #3 • D) has involuntary contraction • A ) is wrong b/c it’s innervated by autonomic nervous system. Somatic motor NS associated with voluntary movement • B) is wrong b/c it is striated due to sacromeres • C) Is wrong b/c it contains a single nuclei • E) is wrong bc calcium is required for contraction
Come back during week 7 for more DAT goodness! Now please welcome our guest speaker, Dr. Denise Habjan!
