  1. Guinness World Record Longest Sea Dive in Regular Water Temperature

  2. The Challenge • Father and son buddy pair, Alf (diving for 15 years) and Alex (diving for 9 years) Campos will attempt to break the current Guinness World Record for the longest Sea Dive in Regular Temperature water. • The current record:  The longest open saltwater SCUBA dive was 48 hr 8 min 17 sec by William Goodman (UK) at Blue Marlin Dive, Lombok, Indonesia, from 7-9 January 2010. Goodman needed to dive in water of a depth no less than 10 m (32 ft 9 in) and no part of his body or equipment could break the surface of the water at any time.  • Brightwater Scuba would like to break this record in December 2013 in Duban, setting a new time of 60 hours.

  3. The Challenge In addition to setting a new Guinness World Record we hope to create awareness about the following elements: • Safe, legal and correct diving practice – the PADI way. • The amazing dive sites KZN has to offer, from Sodwana right through to Aliwal and the Wild Coast – KZN Tourism. • Shark education and conservation – SST and Project aware in conjunction with uShaka Marine World. • The importance of family time and enjoying good clean outdoor activities like scuba diving.

  4. The Sharks People have a terrible, unfounded fear of Sharks. Most of this fear comes from Hollywood and a lack of education. In addition to people fear of Sharks there is a terrible trend around the world called finning, sharks are being caught and killed for their fins, the rest of the shark is simply thrown away. We would like to offer the Breakfast Team at Jacaranda FM a free Open Water course, that will end with a Shark dive down at Aliwal Shoal, one of the best Ragger Tooth Shark Dive sites in the world. Through the open water course the DJ’s will learn to dive safely, have fun and to respect but no longer fear these wonderful creatures.

  5. The Timing We propose to kick off the summer holidays with the record attempt in Durban over the long weekend 13-16 December. Roll out: 48 hour trial run at Brightwater Scuba, in the pool, 22 – 24 November 3 week pre-promo and awareness on TV and Radio, Jacaranda FM Breakfast team do their open water qualification. 14 – 16 December, 60 hour record attempt in Durban, off Vetches Pier.
