What is Procrastination? • To put off doing something, especially out of habitual carelessness or laziness.
What does this mean for students? • Most students who procrastinate will put off projects or assignments that don’t interest them. • Some students put off the beginning of projects because they feel that they are not capable of completing the task. • And some students feel they will seem dumb if they approach a professor and tell them they don’t know how to get started.
Ways to Help • For college students, you should pick a major that excites you, and that is achievable. • Get started, the longer you put it off, the bigger the task will look. • Don’t be afraid to ask for help, you’re not the only one. • “divide and conquer!”
What is Motivation? • (from dictionary.com) the act or an instance of motivating. desire to do; interest or drive. incentive or inducement.
Motivation and Procrastination • They go hand in hand • Poor motivation can lead to procrastination • Procrastination can lead to poor motivation
Time Management • Never have time for the things you want to do or even have to do? • Managing your time well can help
How can I manage my time better? • Plan ahead. Planning ahead allows you to stick to a schedule more easily. • Prioritize. Know what you need to do now, and what you can put off until later. • Try to stray from busy days. Always have time planned for relaxation.
Organization. The key role. vs. • Clean your workplace. It’s easier to work in a clean workplace than a cluttered unorganized one. • Get everything you need at one time to minimize distractions. • Organize what you're going to do and when you’re going to do it.
Minimizing distract—look a bird! • Distractions are huge time eaters. • Learn when to say no. • Be aware of what is distracting you.
Be an efficient learner • Using time to become an efficient learner saves you time and effort. • Learn your teachers teaching techniques. • Focus on what is important.
