To determine How social support is associated with coping responses in children. What types of social support predicts positive coping responses. Of low income African American adolescents. Purpose
To become aware of what types of social support are associated with positive coping in low income African American adolescents. That have experience a traumatic event. For example, Hurricane Katrina Significance

Participants Approximately 142 adolescent participants Ages 13 – 18 42.3% males; 57.7% females 59.9% African American, 33.8% Caucasian, 3.5% Asian American; 2.8% Hispanic Study focused on African Americans Methods
Measurements Demographic Questionnaire YCRI (Youth Coping Response Inventory) SSQC (Social Support Questionnaire for Children) Methods
Procedure Approval was obtained from the IRB and schools Informed consent from parents was sought Families were recruited by letters and consent forms were sent home by children schools Assent was south from child Both the SSQC and YCRI was completed by assented children Methods
