Evangelism 2015 What Can I Do?
Limitations • Not everyone can do everything • Some only have “one talent” – Matt. 25:14-18, cf. Matt. 14:8, Mark 12:42-44 • Not everyone can preach publicly – women have restrictions – 1 Cor. 14:34-35, 1 Tim. 2:11-15Elders – 1 Tim. 3:1-7 • 1 Corinthians 12:15-19 – you need to be what you are! • Age and inexperience can limit your abilities
Limitations • Not everyone can do everything • The church has limitations – a congregation must respect the boundaries God has taught • Many can do more than they think! Some choose to limit themselves!
What can I do? • I can let my light shine, Matt. 5:13-16, Phil. 2:14-16Example and Christian purity cannot be emphasized often enough! • I can pray - James 5:6, 1 Tim. 2:1-4, 2 Thess. 3:1-2 – for wisdom, boldness, opportunities, others, etc. • I can study – 1 Pet. 3:15, 2 Tim. 2:15 – defend and teach more, confidence
What can I do? • I can be a good neighbor, Matt. 22:39-40, Rom. 13:9, Gal. 5:4, Jas. 2:8Most prospects come from those we know and interact with • I can invite others – to services, to our website, correspondence courses, personal Bible studies, etc. • I can be friendly at services – welcome visitors, show hospitality. Be genuine!
What can I do? • I can bring someone to services, those unable to bring themselves, our friends and neighbors, etc. • I can follow up on prospects – cards, calls, visits – as appropriate. Our opportunity is limited 1 Cor. 16:9, Colossians 4:3 • I can stand behind and encourage others – those doing other things, the actual teachers, etc. Cf. John 6:68, John 17:9-19
What can I do? • I can assist those teaching – sit in on a study, watch children, help prepare literature, etc. Cf. 2 Tim. 2:2Mark 6:7, Luke 10:1 – two by two • I can devote extra time to furthering the Lord’s cause – will we give up leisure time? Eph. 5:16, Col. 4:5, Romans 12:1-2
What can I do? • Do whatever you can – DO SOMETHING! • Personal work is more than conducting studies or even teaching the lost • It includes building up the body, keeping the saved – Eph. 4:16, James 5:19-20, 1 Thess. 5:14
What can I do? • Personal work includes: • Visiting the sick and helping them – James 1:27, see 2:15-18 • Follow up on those unable to attend – Hebrews 10:24-25 • Smile and be friendly – 1 Cor. 13:4-5 • Maintain the building – first impressions are important
What can I do? • Personal work includes: • Help prepare materials in various ways – what are your “talents” – technical, etc. • Take a visitor to lunch • Pass out fliers for gospel meetings, etc. • Don’t hide your faith Matt. 5:14-15Do things to let people know you are a Christian
What can I do? • Personal work includes: • LOOK for opportunities. But remember Matt. 10:16, Col. 4:6 • Do something – anything is better than nothing. Do not keep the “seed in the barn” Haggai 2:19 • 2 Corinthians 5:11 • Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God – 1 Cor. 10:31, 1 Pet. 4:11
Our goal: • Is not simply to increase numbers. It is to save souls! • John 4:35, “Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!” • John said, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth”, 3 John 4 • He who wins souls is wise Prov. 11:30
