2. Salvadorans Entering U.S. Bar graphs show a good representation of growth and decline. In this case there is a clear example of growth within the three years shown.

3. Salvadorans Coming to U.S. Throughout History This line graph shows a good representation of when many immigrants came to the United States. In the years between the 80’s and 90’s the war drove many Salvadorans out of the country. This represents the push factor. The years between 2000 and 2003 only represent one year as compared to the majority of the graph (they are in ten year sections).

4. 2 Waves of Immigration • The first wave happened around the 1960’s and 1970’s, these immigrants were women, single women, in search of job opportunities

5. War • The second wave of immigration was due to political instability starting around 1980. The civil war was the reasoning behind the political instability.

6. Struggles of Assimilation • Language Barrier • Difference of race and ethnicity • Cultural differences

7. Cultural Differeneces “At first I didn’t like the food. I remember hating McDonalds and I also couldn’t eat pizza. It’s ironic that now those are the main things I eat.” -Elsy Hernandez (Came to the U.S. from El Salvador at age 6)

8. Small Country, Big Struggle • Salvadoran immigrants come from the smallest country in Central America but their struggles in their homeland and struggles of assimilation are anything but small.
